Piece by Peace

It’s quite possible that I am cracking up, after all this hasn’t exactly been the most even keeled year.  I’ve been awake since the crack of dawn visualizing moving back into the cottage as it is now.  I am re-naming it Piece by Peace.

The inside walls all need re-plastering - when the insurance builders have spare time to fix them that is.  I’m guessing it will be years.  So for now all the flaws (and there are heaps of them) need to be left as ‘evidence’ but I’d like to bring cheer to the place not just leave it as a visual wreck.  (It is uninhabitable at the moment but dreams are free).

I'm thinking of making a decorative statement of each fissure with words or painted images.

By the stairs leading up to the cottage I would have a sign saying:
 watch your crack

By the front door I would have a welcome:
This place is not all it is cracked up to be

By the small opening that leads from the outside wall in:
I can see right through you

Beside my study desk would be:
A wise crack

Beside my dressing table:
Hairline crack

Beside the mirror:
Careful you don’t crack this

In the kitchen:
Crack….ers and cheese

Crack…ed pepper

By the TV:
Have a cracking good time

I could paint a zip on one; band aids on another; feather stitch on one in my sewing area and add a pretend spider to a fissure under the windowsill by the guest bed.

Feel free to add suggestions – there really are heaps of cracks to cover.

P.S. I don't like to clog this space with too many  issues about the earthquake however I have been keeping a private blog piecebypeacecottage where I am documenting issues we are facing and I hope to also collate historical articles and such.  I have now opened this to anyone who may be interested. A few of the articles are repeats from this blog.

I love your wise cracks! And the idea of 'dressing' those cracks is genius. I'm thinking some gorgeous ric-a-rac and scissors painted here and there would look grand, plus a big spool of thread with the tail disappearing into a crack, and don't forget big buttons, hook and eye closures, chinese frog closures, a bit of lacing and some lovely bows dotted around. Your options are wide open (get it). lol. x
